Burley Primary School

Kestrels

Years 3 and 4

We are Kestrels a mixed age Year 3- 4 class. Our teaching team is Mr Butcher, Miss Saxby and Mrs Stillwell. Every day, we challenge ourselves in a range of lessons in which we always strive to achieve our best and to show our Burley values. In the afternoons we follow a project learning approach in which we learn deeply around an overarching question. In order to answer this question, we develop and apply our knowledge of a range of foundation subjects. We are exceedingly fortunate to be a small school surrounded by the New Forest. We have wonderful outside spaces at Burley Primary School including a student garden and woodland area.  With outdoor shoes at the ready, we often take learning outside whenever possible.

As a class we strongly believe that retrieval is a vital part of our day. We know that bringing our prior knowledge back into our working memory helps us learn more and remember more. Learning our multiplication number facts is an important part of the lower KS2 and each day we practice and recall these facts in a range of interesting ways.

Our Week

PE Days in  are Wednesdays and Friday, children to come in full PE kit, suitable for the weather.

Homework is set weekly on a Friday where learners are challenge to learn spellings(they are sets linked to our spelling programme and it is important we learn them), practice their tables on TTRS and read frequently at home. They are set linked to our phonics group and it is important we learn them.
