3. Storymachine

Father Christmas left us a parcel. ….

Inside was a book called ‘The story Machine’ and a strange looking machine. We will discover what the machine is and use it as our hook to create our own story machine full of our own stories.

We will look at different character types, and decide whether our favourite characters are ‘goodies’ or ‘baddies’! Through lots of stories children will look at the ingredients that go into a fantastic fairy tale, focussing on the key parts of stories, characters and settings, beginning, middle and end.

Reading stories will inspire us to make and write stories for our story machines. Using story maps we will retell familiar tales and make our own story creations. A puppet theatre will be central to our learning with children performing traditional tales and their own stories. Children will learn to make different types of puppets.

At the end of the project, we’ll share our amazing story machines and puppet shows.

Reading stories can sweep us away into a fantastical world. Why not visit your local library together to read lots of stories?

Was the Big Bad Wolf really so bad? How many bowls of porridge did Goldilocks eat? Let’s find out more about our favourite stories, and discover some new ones.
